PROJECT BRIEF
This flagship campus for City of Westminster College by Schmidt Hammer Lassen architects is designed to support new ways of teaching and learning. The RIBA award winning 24,000m2 College contains far more open learning space than typical colleges in the UK as well as providing state-of-the-art laboratories, meeting rooms, cafes, a 140 seat theatre and a large sports hall.
The building is designed to be highly energy efficient. The overall scheme has a low maintenance liability which is designed to significantly reduce the building’s running costs and carbon footprint.
PROJECT SOLUTION
WMS installed a plated system within the sports hall as it had to fit within a specialist sports floor system. The 17mm, five layer pipe was fitted into pre-grooved aluminium plates installed between the timber sprung battens.
This system offered a perfect solution to the floor build up specified, as well as providing exceptional comfort and temperature control for the varied activities taking place in the hall, without encroaching on wall space.
WMS was able to facilitate this due to many years of specialist experience in providing underfloor heating solutions for schools, colleges, academies and universities.
