This design from Metaphorm consists of 46 apartments, ranging from one to four bedrooms and a further six, four bedroom town houses. Shortlisted for the 2012 Housing Design Award the apartments are built in two separate blocks and arranged around a courtyard while the townhouses overlook a community garden.
Construction was carried out by Durkan for L&Q Housing Association and the development is part of the £1.5 billion regeneration of Elephant and Castle area in Southwark. All the new homes are built to level four of the code for sustainable homes with many energy saving features built into the construction process including the underfloor heating system.
WMS supplied and installed a 30mm, foiled and grooved floating floor system which was overlaid with an 18mm tongue and groove chipboard to accept the various floor finishes. Each unit had individual room temperature control and also benefitted from having a central time clock to optimise the system efficiency.
A spokesperson for the Southwark Council’s regeneration team, Richard Thomas said “Southwark takes great pride in delivering world-class urban design that works for local people. We’ve put a huge amount of time and effort into this programme and the results, so far, fully justify our commitment.”
